Sky Walker Alice Tompkins (& Julian)
Dear Fellow Traveler,
Happy February! We trust your 2016 has gotten off to a great start. As for us, after a
long search we have finally adopted a new puppy! His name is Sky. Look for upcoming
articles on travel with pets in future issues of TraveLiving.
Even with our new addition, we haven't given up on our own travel. This month we are meeting
friends in Mammoth for our annual family ski trip. And for spring break (it's never too
early to plan) we'll be spending time on Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean.
You, too, can live a life filled with travel. Read on for insights on long-term travel
prep and making money once you've gone.
Abundant Travels,
Kathryn & Jon

3 Tips on Preparing for Extended Time on the Road
Simply wrapping your head around packing up and leaving for the long haul out on the
road may seem extremely daunting, which is completely understandable. It’s a big
change and in order to make it easier on yourself, consider the following tips...
1. Plan Ahead
If you are already a natural planner, this will be no problem. If not, then you really
need to buckle down and plan at least the first two months out on the road. Where you
are staying, your budget, and your work plans. This will help cut down your stress
immensely.
2. Pack Light
This may be one of the hardest ones as you will feel like you have to take your entire
home with you, but trust us when we say that that is NEVER a good idea. Bring only the
essentials (laptop, money, small suitcase of clothes, etc.) and always remember that
you need to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice! Life out on the road is
unpredictable, but that is also what makes it so exciting!
3. Stay Connected
One of the most important things you need to do in order to thrive on the road is
obviously to maintain your income so that a month or two down the road you don’t find
your pockets completely penniless. Stay connected by use of WiFi, email, and phone so
that you are always on top of your work. The flipside of this is too of course know
when to stop working and enjoy your time out on the road because after all, isn’t that
what this decision to live the Portable Lifestyle™ is all about?

3 Ways to Make Money on the Road Virtually
If you think the Portable Lifestyle™ is for you, yet you’re still trying to come up
with ways in which to make it happen, consider these following three options...
1. Fiverr
Do you have skills as a writer, a graphic designer, or maybe you are an expert at
WordPress? Whatever you know how to do, you can offer that type of service through
sites like Fiverr where buyers come to you, make a request, receive your work, and
hopefully order more from you! Browse through the site to get some ideas.
2. Tutoring
Did you do well in school? Well, there are thousands of high school and college
students out there that could greatly use your expertise and help with school work and
preparing for tests. It can all be done virtually through Skype and companies like
TruePrep (http://trueprep.co) can pay you up to $50
an hour!
3. Blogging
Do you have a specific niche you are interested in and know a ton about? Consider
starting a website and blog. If you work hard enough, you may be able to make money
through selling ads, your products, and posting affiliate links. Though it’s
a ton of work, blogging may just become something that produces an income for you on
the road and be something you absolutely love!

Destination Spotlights
1. Mammoth Lakes, California
A beautiful mountain town known for its world-class ski resort,
Mammoth Lakes, located south of Reno, is one of California's finest small communities.
With the economy based primarily on tourism, there are close to 5,000 rental units
contributing to two thirds of the annual gross revenue. We're actually just about to
head up there for a snow adventure of our own!
2. Turks & Caicos, Caribbean
Located southeast of the Bahamas and north of Hispaniola, this
tropical archipelago offers a beautifully warm alternative to the cold weather
throughout North America this winter. Pristine white sandy beaches surrounded
by turquoise waters ensure a relaxing calm to an otherwise busy world.
Are you ready to get out of the cold and into the warm tropics? Join Kathryn March
