K & J on the Tube
Riding the Tube in London

Dear [[firstname]],

Hi, there! We're currently on a jaunt to London for work and a cruise in Southern Europe right after.

Our strategy? We're working on our first plane. During our layover, we'll recharge in the airport lounge, use the wifi there, eat some food, freshen up and walk a bit before our long Atlantic flight.

We're sleeping on the 2nd plane in order to embrace our new time zone and will stay awake all day for our first day in London.

On our cruise, we'll see a few cities we've never seen yet including Faro, Lisbon, Casablanca, Gibraltar, Valencia and Madrid.

The hotels we're staying in are centrally located, high end with good wifi. We'll work a bit, but the cruise is a second Honeymoon -- it's been years since we've had any alone time, so we're taking advantage of it. Our children are home in Malibu being cared for by their 30 year old cousin.

Traveling V.I.P. for Free!

VIP for Free
You don't have to spend a dime to become a travel VIP.

This type of travel not only makes you feel
special, but you get more business done and
eradicate stress or fatigue in the process.

Here are some tips on how to travel VIP at no
 charge:

Fly enough & you'll find yourself on the TSA
Precheck list or pay a small fee to ensure it.

THE PERKS: You get to skip the security line, keep your shoes on through security, keep your laptop in your bag and zip through security. If you have kids with you, they automatically get these same perks.

Get a miles credit card or two. Several airlines offer them, and they're the keys to the kingdom. A friend who learned to work this system now has over a million miles. You get a bonus when you sign up, miles with every purchase and more miles for certain purchases or buying plane tickets. Just run purchases through your card, pay off your balance each month to avoid fees and it's free miles to use for all sorts of VIP experiences.

THE PERKS: You can easily upgrade for first class travel. As you reach elite status, you're automatically upgraded about 90% of the time. You get to board early on the plane even if you're not flying first class. You get lounge access and passes to other high end travel experiences. You get food discounts. Certain American Express cards entitle you to free wifi on planes (rare) and even access to traveling on private planes, private rail cars and more elite travel.

TIP: Apply for the miles credit card for the airline you prefer or the one that goes to the places you fly the most. Many credit cards offer partner travel perks as well.

We'll continue to let you in on how to travel like royalty for a pittance, so stay tuned for more on VIP travel.

Figuring Out Where to Go

Where to Go? On the trip we're currently enjoying, we know that cities in Europe are busy places, and that's why we planned on cruising a bit. To balance the hustle-bustle with some pampering and having a room that travels with you.

How do you pick where to go when you're virtual and you can go anywhere? Here are some ways to discern your next stop:

Go places that you know you'll enjoy Dream about the tropics? Plan on Tahiti or the Caribbean.

Do things from your bucket list. If you're a ski buff, make a list of the slopes all over the world you most covet tackling and work your way down it.

Remember that the Big City can be invigorating and you can throw the occasional one in your travels. Downside: many distractions, seeing everything can be draining. Upside: great connections for phone and internet if you have uploading, downloading or heavy bandwidth needed. Inspiration can come from the fast energy of a city.

On the other hand, the tropics are more relaxing. They are a great place to relax and have more time for business. You can spend half your time lazying around and the other half focusing on work to be done. Introspection flows nicely in this environment.

Cold, rural places give you more incentive to get stuff done. You can cozy up and get some writing done or tackle a big business expansion.

It's always nice to plan a mix of different type of destinations. Some of our friends who are Portable Lifestylers alternate between tropical and cold, big city and the sticks. They spend about 6 months per place which usually coincides nicely with their visa expiration & the seasons. They also hop between more expensive destinations and cheap ones to even out the budget.

TIP: When you travel, have a big list of what to do on a plane. Once you get your tasks done, treat yourself to a movie or a nap as a reward. You'll have more time when you arrive to goof off and see the sights.
