TraveLiving: Creating Your Own Portable Lifestyle

Wednesday 15th, July 2015

Dear [[firstname]],

We hope you're having a great summer so far! We've balancing out traveling with staying home in Malibu -- a first that is quite exotic for us. We won 2nd place in the Point Dume golf cart parade!

Pt. Dume 4th of July

One of our favorite 4th of July memories was having just rolled into Panama, only to experience the magical sight of fireworks over the Panama Canal. The Panamanians honor us by also celebrating our Day of Independence.

Remember summer is the perfect time to make a trial run on going portable. Schedule a trip during which you'll work virtually and also vacation. We'd love you to write us to let us know how it goes after. We may include you in a future newsletter.

Have a great rest of the summer!

Abundant Travels,
             Jon & Kathryn

P.S.  In honor of summer and Kathryn's birthday, we'll be having a SALE next week -- a rare one with great discounts and good bonuses. Stay tuned for more notice of that!

Settling In

Settling In

We notice that it takes around 24 hours for us to feel like a new place is home. That's all. It surprised us when we started noticing this. We definitely have a system of settling in -- to make a place feel homey. And we often have systems.

When one of us travels alone, we spread out all over the place, because hey, who cares?

But when we're together as a family -- which is most of the time -- we do have a system. Swim toys always go in a certain place. Kids clothes always go in certain drawers. Certain items always go in the nightstand -- earplugs, Kindle, tiny flashlight, lip balm. This way, it's easy to find everything. Even in packing, certain items always go in certain parts of the suitcase.

Upon arriving in a new place, first priority is to lay in food supplies, because we like to have food on hand for snacks and children.

Next priority is always connectivity, so we ensure the business can go on running smoothly. If we need to buy any special supplies to connect, we make a run for that.

After that, it's all about having fun, exploring our surroundings, getting used to the amenities and surrounding area.

We invite you to start laying in your own systems to make settling in a breeze.

Advertising

Advertising on Target

We're often asked -- how do you get your first virtual customers when you're just starting out?

The very best way is to start a list of people interested in what you do. You can pad it at the beginning with friends and family. Collect cards from people.

On your website, make sure it's really easy for folks to sign up to be on your list. They start knowing you as you keep in touch with them (a must) and will eventually become customers.

Advertising more directly can also build your list and find you customers. The best online advertising right now is through Facebook or Google Adwords. You can micro target to find your customers. Looking for women age 35-49 who love yoga? No problem!

This targeting makes advertising very cheap and efficient. And it only takes around 30 minutes to set up advertising. Facebook advertising powereditor is the best way to target.

To dip your toe into advertising with zero setup, just promote a post on your Facebook for Business page. You can do a bit of targeting to promote it, and that only takes about 5 minutes.

One key to any successful virtual business is to find your customers and make sure they know what you offer. That's what advertising and any marketing are all about.

This is something we get into quite a bit in our Portable Lifestyle™ Primer, because it's so key to being able to go portable.
