We've spent time with family and friends and have enjoyed beach parties, pool parties, birthday parties, parades, movie premiers, and all kinds of fun summer activities.

Still, as you may already know, as fall approaches, vacation time does not have to end if you're a Portable Lifestyler. Read on to find a couple of easy Portable Lifestyle options as well as some basic steps for income boosting.

Have an awesome August!

Two Homes

Tropical Home / Mountain HomeWe have noticed a trend amongst those who aren’t ready to go completely portable of setting up two households. Some get a vacation home, where they live part of the year. Others set up their 2nd home as a vacation rental to defray overhead.

In our Portable Lifestyle Primer, we tell the story of Susan, who set up 3 different households – one in New York, one in Los Angeles and one in Jerome, Arizona – all in lovely areas of these cities. She found a way to easily afford all three and would spend part of each of the year at each locale.

Here’s how to begin setting yourself up to live part of the year in two or more places:

1.  Begin to go virtual with small steps toward de-localizing your income & day-to-day concerns. Set up online banking, online bill pay, online ability to take payment (PayPal or credit card gateway even just with your personal checking) and start taking work home or developing virtual products.

2.  Take a few small trips to locate an alternate place you’d like to live and explore. Seek out longterm rentals or reasonable homes for sale. Make sure to check the rental market if you’re buying.

3.  In the meantime, begin purging your current home of clutter (seriously, do you NEED all that?) and set aside a lockable storage area you can use to store personal effects when you leave. We don’t care WHERE your home is, there is vacation rental market for it which is more lucrative than you think. Renting it out while you’re away, home exchanging or subletting cuts down on overhead so it becomes easily do-able to take off.

As we've seen with everyone who we’ve mentored, the small steps add up until you're off and running. You can live an amazing life without being confined to one locale, as more and more are discovering.

To get details on how to successfully pull off each of these steps, get our Portable Lifestyle Primer, which we keep updated, and has many resources and steps that will get you up and running on your portable adventures quickly. It only took us 3 months to get ready to go using this exact process. We’re giving you a $10 off coupon good until the end of the week. This coupon code is good for $10 off ANY of our Portable Lifestyle products. Just use coupon code: AUG2011 and get going!

Income in This Economy

Jost Van Dyke, BVIIt has been interesting to note which companies and services are flourishing even as others flounder during the recession. Companies like Groupon and Living Social are growing in leaps and bounds as they offer cut-rate services to local customers. The same is true of luxury companies (believe it or not) whose products stand the test of time and retain a resell value. Great example: Hermes.

The solopreneurs who continue to thrive have adjusted themselves to this economy. They have more frequent sales, offer lower price point options or provide a way for the jobless to establish an income.

Despite what you may see in the news, many companies both large & small are growing right now. You can be one of them if you have the right focus. Whether you're already in business, working for someone else (and this is a job retainer move!), try the following:

  • Ask yourself how you can help people right now. What is there a market for? What products and services are flourishing right now?
  • Look for products that you can seek out that will save people money. We are in an information age where people will pay to easily find what they need. We have known Internet millionaires who only resell existing products that are virtual. Becoming an affiliate for something you believe in (as the affiliates who promote and sell our products know) can be quite lucrative.
  • Are there ways you can add value – provide some extras – to your current offerings?
  • Discover ways to save the company that you work for money or increase their income. The employees who help the bottom line are the last to get laid off.

The fact is that there are countless ways to thrive in this economy – many of them virtual. As you open up to this, it is the fastest way to a healthy virtual income that frees you up for the Portable Life.

This fall, we’re focusing on careers at the Portable Lifestyle. Sign up NOW for our Career Boosters Webinar scheduled for Thursday, Sept 8th to set an intention for financial flourishing this fall. It's FREE!
